My therapy teaches you ‘how to fish’.  No one has a magic wand, we can’t make all the bad things in life disappear, but we can learn how to look at life differently and learn new ways to respond that empower us and help us reap more rewards from the cards life has dealt us.

What should you expect?

People’s problems come in many different shapes and sizes.  As a therapist I don’t like to use labels and I don’t believe that we’re all mad (we’re just Human!), it’s just that we sometimes get stuck in life and need a little help to “loosen the glue” that keeps us stuck.

Take a look at some of the areas I treat below. This is only a rough guide because we’re all different and you may have a different name for some of the symptoms I may describe.  Maybe you don’t even have a name for what you are experiencing, all you know is that something isn’t quite right.  That’s OK…Feel free to pick up the phone for a chat.  I won’t charge you and you may find that one phone call is all you need to put you mind at ease.


Anxiety


Anxiety is a feeling of dread and fear that can cause physical symptoms such as rapid heart beat, sweaty palms, light-headedness and sickness. It’s an unpleasant feeling that is totally counter-productive and bad for our emotional and physical health. Severe anxiety releases stress hormones into our bloodstream that can lead to high-blood pressure, cardiovascular problems and a whole host of other problems. Anxiety is simply a warning from the unconscious mind to ‘focus on what you want’. It’s natural to sometimes feel a little apprehensive or feeling ‘butterflies’ before a big event such as giving a presentation, getting married or going for your driving test. However, severe, crippling anxiety is unhealthy and using modern therapy techniques are extremely powerful tools for destroying it.

Depression


Most of us at some point in our lives will have experienced feelings of sadness, despair and despondency. However, some people can experience depression more frequently and with more severity that can seriously interfere with the quality of their life. With therapy, you will learn how to understand your depression, know why it happens and learn strategies to help lift you out of it and make plans how to overcome it in the future should it return.  Knowing how to identify the symptoms before it gets out of hand is key so we will be looking at the recovery process and how to protect ourselves from depression in the future.

OCD


Everyone double checks things sometimes. You might double check to make sure the oven or iron is turned off before leaving the house. But people with OCD feel the need to check things repeatedly, or have certain thoughts or perform routines and rituals over and over.

The thoughts and rituals associated with OCD cause distress and get in the way of daily life.  Frequent upsetting thoughts are called obsessions. To try to control them, a person may feel an overwhelming urge to repeat certain rituals or behaviours called compulsions. People with OCD feel they can’t control these obsessions and compulsions.

Recently the media has tried to pull back the curtain on the secret lives of several different people suffering from OCD.  Some of these television shows have used quite extreme methods to tackle the problem of OCD and, in my opinion, they’re disgusting and very upsetting to watch!.

The contemporary model of therapy I promote is nothing like that at all because I will train your subconscious how to think in new, more flexible ways about your OCD, rather than getting you to fight with it.  My personal theory of OCD is mirrored by new emerging cognitive research and countless successes with people just like you!

Limiting beliefs


Limiting beliefs are exactly what they are described as = limiting. This can be a belief about yourself that holds you back in life, e.g. I don’t feel I’m good enough, I’m not good with money, I’m a failure etc. This negative self-talk creates a vicious circle because the more we re-emphasise this limiting belief, the more it becomes an ingrained habit and affects our behaviour and belief system. A limiting belief has almost certainly been preceded by a limiting decision which is most often unconscious, something that we are not aware of. This negative attitude holds people back and through NLP, these negative beliefs can be deleted and new positive beliefs are created so to help people move forwards with their lives and to achieve success.

Phobias


A phobia is an intense, irrational reaction of fear to specific external events, objects, people or situations that cause a person to not function in a normal manner. They are sometimes so severe that they can add huge restrictions in a person’s life. The term ‘Phobia’ is derived from the Greek word, fovia, which means ‘extreme fear’. There are some extremely powerful therapeutic techniques that can help eradicate your phobia and help you to live a more normal life again.  Don’t keep living in fear, the treatment process is painless, not what you might imagine at all.  Wouldn’t you like to be free from your phobia so you can simply relax and enjoy life?

Self confidence & self esteem


Lack of self confidence or self belief and low self esteem is one of the most common problems that many people have. It is a negative state of mind and can hold people back from achieving their goals or fulfilling their full potential. Causes of low confidence vary and can be due to events in childhood or adulthood. Modern, solution focused therapies are highly effective in increasing a person’s confidence levels and helping you to gain new beliefs and understanding about yourself, the world and other people.

Stop smoking


Smoking is a very unhealthy habit to indulge in that can lead to a whole host of physical ailments and illnesses in later life. Through psychological treatment, the smoker will learn to be a ‘non-smoker’ and will learn new behaviours that will result in them no longer feeling a need to reach out for a cigarette.

Weight loss


Excess weight gain is not just because of overeating or a slow metabolism. It can also be as a result of deeper emotional issues.   Psychological therapy can allow help you to get rid of that old baggage so that you have room to start working on weight loss itself without fear that you will self-sabotage again.  Learn how to think differently and behave differently, improve confidence in yourself and feel in control of your life.

Stress


In today’s modern world, where many of us are caught up in the rat race with stress at work and constant bombardment of negative news in the media, it’s no wonder that many of us may suffer from stress. It’s been proven that a high percentage of physical illnesses and ailments are caused by stress and a build up of negative emotions, can accumulate in the body and cause physical and emotional problems later in life. This is known as the mind-body connection. Through modern therapeutic methods, optimum relaxation and resilience can be achieved that reduce help you to not only be mindful and reduce your stress rapidly but also to learn how to spot it before it gets too big and protect yourself from stress in the future.
