Congruence and Mindfulness Training

Know who you are

Congruence with Mindfulness Management Programme

Congruence (≅) is defined as the state achieved by coming together, the state of agreement. In Latin congruō means “I meet together, I agree”.

NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming), and some integrative psychological approaches, define congruence to be in rapport within oneself and to experience an internal and external consistency, which may be perceived by others as sincerity or certainty. Virginia Satir, one of the sources of NLP, defines congruence as the balance between self, other and context.

Learning to be congruent in a mindful way promotes wellbeing, teaches the skills to reduce and manage stress and anxiety and helps to deal with emotional and physical problems.

Scientific research has shown that mindfulness not only raises self-esteem, self-awareness and self-regulated behaviour it also improves concentration, relationships and academic achievement. Research has also revealed improvements in sport using NLP techniques that have been employed by many of the world’s top athletes. Mindfulness is recommended by NICE [the National Institute for Clinical Excellence], and The Mental Health Foundation.

We have all had times in our lives when we have struggled with stress. At those times you may have experience a sense of overwhelming confusion and physical symptoms that can feel like you are going mad. I know, from personal experience, that the journey through school and university does become very stressful, not only due to the stressful environment and pressure from exams, but also from the confusion of not knowing what direction to go, the fear of making a mistake and the perceived need to meet the approval of people around us; including our parents, teachers and peers.

Congruence and Mindfulness Training for Student Success

Rejuvinate your thinking Patterns

Congruence with Mindfulness is a contemporary training employing accessible and interesting exercises to help groups learn to pay attention to things as they actually are, rather than the way they hope they should be. It promotes the development of self awareness and an awareness of the present moment and our experiences so that we become aware of BEING aware, rather than moving through our lives on auto-pilot.

With Congruence with Mindfulness training you will learn:-

· To become familiar with the workings of your mind.

· To recognise unskilful habits of mind and behaviour.

· To alter your perception of the commentary of your thoughts.

· To become aware of your thinking, and allow your thoughts to pass free from emotional content.

· To live in the present moment neither dwelling on the past [ruminating ], or worrying about the future [catastrophising].

· To forge new, beneficial thinking patterns in your brain.

· To transform relationships.

· To respond, and to lead your, life rather than blindly reacting to events.

Students who practice congruence and mindfulness experience a greater understanding of their place in life and therefore a reduction in their stress levels and an improvement in relationships.

Teachers who practice congruence and mindfulness find that their stress levels and frustration reduce in their personal and professional lives. They are also able to model this awareness and its benefits to the students in the classroom.

Professionals who practice congruence and mindfulness experience greater understanding of their identity and place in life, which can lead to a reduction in stress but more often leads to existential challenging and an improvement in overall life direction.
